The following questions are the most frequently asked regarding our street maintenance program. If the answer you are searching for does not appear on this page, please send us your
questions below.
*Only questions regarding policies, procedures, or programs. No individual requests or complaints.
POTHOLES
You can report potholes to the Department of General Services by calling us at (518) 434-2489 or submitting a request to SeeClickFix.
During the winter blacktop isn’t manufactured so we fill potholes with a mixture called cold patch. It is a temporary repair until blacktop is available.
STREET REPAIRS
You can submit a request to have your street repaved on SeeClickFix. Once your request has been submitted it will be added to the list for consideration for street re-pavement in the upcoming street re-pavement schedule.
Each year the Department posts the streets that will be repaved on the City's website. Click here to see this years selections. Additionally, property owners with properties on the streets to be impacted by the re-pavement will be sent a letter outlining the process for the re-pavement.
Each year the Division of Engineering will review the streets for consideration for re-pavement. Streets will then be chosen based on severity of need and the street re-pavement is spread equally throughout the city.
STREET CLEANING
The Department of General Services is responsible for all street sweeping in the City of Albany. All streets are cleaned on a regular basis weather permitting. Street Cleaning often occurs in the evening or early morning, so please be sure to abide by the parking regulations posted to allow for thorough street cleaning.
Parking restrictions are utalized for more than just street sweeping. They are used to ensure a vechicle is not parked on the street indefiently. In many cases a "move over" is used to fill a pothole, trim a tree, remove snow or any other service that would require service vechicles or equipement to get close to the curb to perform a service.
SIDEWALK REPAIR
The sidewalk that is parallel to the street is the responsibility of the city to maintain while the walkway that leads to the home is the property owner's responsibility. If the sidewalk in front of your home is in need of repair please reach out to the Department of General Services at (518) 434-2489 to schedule an inspection.
